Blown Glass
Seattle has played a pivotal role in the American Studio Glass movement, driven by the influence of artist Dale Chihuly and the founding of the Pilchuck Glass School back in 1976. Today, the city is a world-renowned hub for glass art, rivaling Murano, Italy, in its concentration of artists and studios.
Made In Washington has always been proud to work with glass artists across our state to offer affordable glass art for the home and garden.
Today, there are wide range of institutions and cultural elements keeping Seattle at the forefront of blown glass in the US:
Chihuly Garden and Glass: This major permanent exhibition showcases Chihuly's large-scale work at the Seattle Center and is a major tourist attraction.
Tacoma’s Museum of Glass: Co-founded by Chihuly, this museum continues Pilchuck’s legacy by featuring a renowned Hot Shop Amphitheater where visitors can watch artists create work live.
Pratt Fine Arts Center: Opened in Seattle in 1976, this center further expanded glassblowing education in the region.
Refract: The Seattle Glass Experience: This annual festival celebrates the region’s creative glass scene, with studio tours, demonstrations, and special events. Made In Washington has been proud to be included among the suggested stops during the event.
