our history
Made In Washington’s story begins on America’s favorite adventure—a road trip.
Founders Gillian and Jack Mathews were traveling to a neighboring state to visit friends. While there, they dropped in on a store that was all about celebrating the state they were visiting and wondered why Washington didn’t have something similar.
They talked about the idea all the way back to Seattle, and in February of 1984, the Mathews realized their dream with the opening of the first Made In Washington store in Pike Place Market’s Post Alley.
That first store brought an entirely new concept to our area: a wide variety of quality products made in Washington State by local makers, artists, craftspeople, entrepreneurs, and small businesses.
Although the business started with only fifty items, the Made In Washington concept flourished, and soon we were working with over 200 makers around the state.
We’re one of the few places in the state able to offer a huge range of the best local products, and we simplify the search for customers because they know everything we have—both online and in stores—is thoughtfully curated. You can’t visit our stores or website without feeling inspired by the creativity and stories on display.
Today, we continue to celebrate the rich bounty of Washington State’s food, art, and lifestyle online and at our stores throughout the Puget Sound region, including a licensed retail location at SeaTac airport.

What if I receive something I am not satisfied with?
If you experience a problem with your order or are unsatisfied with our products, please contact our Customer Service Department by phone (1-800-338-9903) or by email, and we will resolve things promptly.
I thought everything you sell was made in Washington. Why do some product descriptions say “globally produced?”
We do our best to curate products that are designed, crafted, and made in Washington. Our #1 goal is to support our state in meaningful ways, and one of the biggest ways we do that is by working with makers who provide jobs in—and give back to—local communities. In parallel, manufacturing realities exist for our makers to produce products at prices that feel good to everyone. We work hard to toe that line. There are some products we carry that, while designed in Washington, may require imported components or global factory sourcing to deliver the best finished product. In their product descriptions, you’ll see a note that says, “Washington-born, globally produced.” This allows our customers to make the best purchasing decisions for them. If you have any questions or feedback about these products, we encourage you to contact us.

How do I track my order?
Online customers will receive an email (if you enter an email address) with tracking numbers once an order ships.
Currently, Made In Washington cannot ship to international addresses.
What is your return policy?
If you experience a problem with your order or are unsatisfied with our products, contact our Customer Service Department, and we will resolve things promptly. Made In Washington may require returning the products with which you are dissatisfied before we substitute an acceptable item, issue a credit or give you cash back. With a receipt, you may return any item purchased online either by mail or at any of our three store locations within 60 days of purchase. Please note: Food items cannot be returned or exchanged for safety reasons. Gift cards are unable to be returned or exchanged.

My order is shipping to the wrong address. Can it be fixed?
If you have accidentally shipped your order to the wrong address, please contact customer service immediately at 1-800-338-9903 or email us to try to correct the issue. There is a limited timeframe where changes and updates are possible before the package leaves our warehouse.
STORES & AVAILABILITY
Where are you located?
We have retail locations in downtown Seattle, Bellevue, and Lynnwood. Our shipping warehouse is in Everett, and some of our team works out of Anacortes. Additionally, we have several managers and call center team members working remotely.
The Made In Washington store location at SeaTac Airport is a licensed location, staffed and managed by the Hudson Group. As such, some products, promotions, and special features on MadeInWashington.com or at the three Made In Washington locations listed above may not be reflected at the SeaTac location.

Why can't I find something I saw in one of your stores online?
Our Made In Washington stores may carry one-of-a-kind or limited products that are more difficult to sell online because each piece is unique. Also, the stores may work with new makers directly to introduce them to customers, so those makers may not be represented on our website. Our stores’ personal shoppers are happy to help you via email, text, phone, or on FaceTime, if you’ve spotted an item you can’t live without!

Do you sell gift cards?
Yes, Made In Washington currently offers digital gift cards in various denominations. Click here to purchase a digital gift card.
Can I return a digital gift card?
A digital gift card is cash. Gift cards cannot be returned or exchanged. If you are giving a digital card as a gift, please confirm your recipient's email when forwarding the gift card.
