MEET THE MAKER

The Dining Dog
Edmonds, Washington
The Dining Dog Café & Bakery is a one-of-a-kind artisan business in Edmonds, Washington, founded by passionate dog lover Dorothy Chagas. Dorothy had a lightbulb moment years ago: she thought, you know, I'm a dog groomer, and I've worked in restaurants where I've waited on people, and I've decorated cakes; maybe I could open a Doggy Restaurant & Bakery. She wanted it to be fancy, a dining experience. Blending her early career experience resulted in a fine dining restaurant—for dogs. What began as an idea to complement a friend’s dog-related business became a sensation. After a celebrated early run that closed during COVID, The Dining Dog returned to Firdale Village in 2025, once again offering beloved pups and their owners an unforgettable, tail-wagging experience. This is no ordinary pet bakery—it's a full-service canine dining destination where dogs are treated like royalty with four-course meals, doggie cocktails, appetizers, entrées, and desserts served tableside.
The café also specializes in personalized birthday parties complete with cake, party hats, and plenty of celebration. At the heart of the business is a deep love for dogs, exemplified by the story behind their signature Percy Treats—originally crafted to help Dorothy’s dog Percy take his medication during cancer treatment. These handmade, small-batch dog cookies are now available in crunchy, gluten-free versions using brown rice flour and peanut butter, with options for yogurt drizzle or classic plain.
Everything at The Dining Dog is made with minimal, dog-safe ingredients and a whole lot of heart. Whether dining in or grabbing treats to go, customers know they’re getting something truly special. Every day at The Dining Dog is an opportunity to honor our furry friends' unwavering love.
She's attended various dog events throughout the years around the US, and between 2006 and 2009, every time she was in LA, she would be welcomed to the Playboy Mansion with pet treat deliveries for all the dog owners there.
On April 4, 2012, Dorothy and The Dining Dog made their national TV debut on Season 1, Episode 1 of World's Weirdest Restaurants. “I love dogs and wanted to pamper them,” Dorothy explained. “I wanted the dogs to have an upscale place to go for dinner where they would be waited on and pampered and eat off a gold platter.”
A Business That Pays It Forward: Chef-owner Dorothy is a big supporter of PAWS. Every Christmas she gets a count from the center about how many pets will be spending Christmas Day with them, and she prepares a special roast & Yorkshire pudding Christmas Day meal for all the un-adopted animals at PAWS in Lynnwood, making sure no pup is forgotten.
When people come in with their pets, it brings joy and happiness to them, and for Dorothy, it is a very rewarding work life.
