Plantable paper is the specialty and passion at Recycled Ideas. Founded in 2011 by Holy Nelson, the female-led studio transforms 100% post-consumer waste into beautiful, seed-embedded paper using traditional handmade papermaking techniques. They are one of the premier producers of seed-embedded paper in the world and are a leader in this specialty paper market. Their client roster includes Toyota, PetSmart, Coca-Cola, Moët Hennessy, AirBnB, Snapchat, and numerous small businesses and individuals who wish to promote the same values they hold dear: Love, kindness, and deep respect for the environment.

Every sheet is crafted to order using post consumer recycled materials—including office paper, school supplies, recycled denim cotton and more. They embed their paper with non-GMO seeds carefully selected to ensure they are safe for local ecosystems and free from bee-harming neonicotinoids. Their signature flower blend combines vibrant annuals and enduring perennials like zinnias, poppies, cosmos, and marigolds designed to attract vital pollinators. They also craft paper embedded with culinary herbs and garden vegetables like basil, tomatoes, and lavender.

Before stepping into full-time papermaking, the founders worked as a college professor and a newspaper editor—bringing a sharp eye for quality, craftsmanship, and dead-on reliability to every project. Today, their small family team works with an additional 2- 6 seasonal employees in Walla Walla. From their studio to the garden, every piece of paper is made to share joy, spark growth, and keep the planet blooming.
