Blue, blue, blue! Ever feel obsessed with a color? For Natalie Menacho, it’s indigo—deep, rich, and full of magic. Who knew such a stunning hue could come from the green leaf of a perennial plant?
Natalie is a multi-disciplinary artist based on Orcas Island. She began dyeing with indigo in 2016, captivated by its alchemical transformation, and took things a step further in 2024 by growing her own indigo. Using traditional shibori folding techniques and organic indigo-and-henna dyeing, she creates one-of-a-kind textiles that bring beauty and function into everyday life.
Her ceramic work follows the same philosophy—handbuilt, functional pieces that blend wabi-sabi modernity with a touch of bohemian magic. Whether it’s a set of indigo-dyed napkins or a perfectly imperfect ceramic spoon rest, Natalie’s work is meant to be used, loved, and lived with.
All pieces are crafted on-island, where Natalie runs a small, independent studio. While she’s currently a one-woman operation, she is always welcoming of collaborative opportunities with fellow Washington-based artists and craftspeople to bring new visions to life.
