Harrelson Handcrafted

Maple Falls, Washington

A nature-inspired handmade goods studio based in Maple Falls, Washington, nestled in the foothills of the North Cascades just outside Bellingham.

The story starts with Rick Harrelson, who spent years working in theatre, first in New York City and Seattle, then back in Oklahoma behind the scenes as a director, lighting designer, and scenic builder. That last turn was the one that stuck. Building sets led to building furniture. Building furniture led to building a business.

Rick met his fiancée Meghan while working in the theatre in Tulsa. When the pandemic shuttered theatres in 2020, Rick leaned fully into making things with his hands, refurbishing furniture, crafting tables, and building custom pieces for friends and family. Meghan started making mountain coasters during that same time. Those parallel creative pursuits became the foundation of Harrelson Handcrafted.

The two moved to Washington in 2022, first to Bellingham, then deeper into the foothills to Maple Falls in 2023, where they could be closer to Mount Baker, their favorite trails, and the lakes that border them. That move changed everything. The woods behind their home and workshop, the marine life in the Salish Sea, the fern fronds unfurling each spring, all of it started showing up in their work.

As theatre people, storytelling has always been at the center of what they do. Every piece Harrelson Handcrafted makes is designed to hold a story, whether that's where it came from, what inspired it, or the adventure it reflects. It started with the Mt. Baker Topography Coaster Set, and that product pointed the way forward: functional, nature-inspired goods that bring the Pacific Northwest into your everyday spaces.

Harrelson Handcrafted officially launched in December 2024. All products are handcrafted in Maple Falls, Washington. Furniture is built in-house from locally sourced wood. Vegan leather goods are made from domestically sourced materials, and select pieces like wallets and pot hangers incorporate domestically sourced animal leather. Every product is designed, prototyped, and tested before it ever reaches your home.
