CEO Shivani Grandhi grew up eating Indian snacks made by her mom and grandmother her entire life. One of her favorite "comfort foods" is the traditional snack called Jowar Dhani (popped sorghum). It is a fun local snack and is often found as street food flavored with Indian spices, delivering a spicy kick. After researching what snacks would be suitable for her dad, who is diabetic, she found that she didn't have to look very far. The snack they'd been consuming for years was perfect for him. When she shared the snack with her friends and they liked it as much as she did, she wanted to share it with the rest of the world. The idea was to widen its appeal so it could be enjoyed by everyone, so a modern twist was added—the introduction of fun mainstream popcorn flavors. That's how Happy Pop, Shivani's passion project, was created in January 2024, which she co-founded with fellow student Stan Shabanov.
