Eighth Generation is a Seattle-based art and lifestyle brand owned by the Snoqualmie Tribe. It was founded in 2008 by artist Louie Gong (Nooksack), and in 2016 became the first Native-owned business to produce and sell authentic Native-designed wool blankets on a commercial scale. Since then, Eighth Generation has become the first Native-owned company to ever produce wool blankets using state-of-the-art machines to knit luxurious wool textiles in their Seattle studio, and is a proud participant in the global economy with their huge line of Native-designed blankets, home goods, personal accessories, and more.
Eighth Generation provides a strong, ethical alternative to “Native-inspired” art and products through its artist-centric approach and 100% Native designed products. Their Inspired Natives® Project, anchored by the tagline “Inspired Natives®, not Native-inspired,” builds business capacity among cultural artists while addressing the economic impact of cultural appropriation.
Eighth Generation is based in Seattle, Washington, with their production studio, warehouse, and admin offices in the Georgetown neighborhood, and their flagship store in Downtown Seattle, mere steps from the historic Pike Place Market. They currently have 22 FTE employees on their team.
