For Lindsay Droz and Kristi Lord, it was a commonly occurring event that catapulted them into business ownership: the near constant demand for cleaning up after their kids and pets. In Lindsay's case, it all began one day when she was mopping the floor and read the back label on the product and discovered that it was not safe to use around pets because it could seep into their paws and/or they might lick it off their paws and get sick. It made her think, "If it is not good for my dog to walk on, then why would it be safe for my baby to crawl on these floors after cleaning?" For Kristi, in 2014, when her second son began experiencing chronic eczema as a newborn, she started researching all the irritants he may be coming into contact with and was shocked to learn that it was the everyday products like shampoo, soap, laundry detergent, and cleaning products she was using on a daily basis that were aggravating the condition.
They both realized that there was no transparency into what was in the products they were using and the subsequent impact on humans and the environment. On their quest to replace harmful products with safe ones, they discovered a gap in the market for non-toxic cleaning products that worked AND looked nice on the counter, and could be refilled. So after delving into the eco-friendly plant-based world of natural ingredients and many formulations and packaging concepts later, the L’AVANT Collective start-up officially opened in December of 2020 in the Capitol Hill area of Seattle.
Today, their headquarters and operations are based in the SODO area of Seattle, and their product line is a range of eco-luxe cleaning and household products that offer the highest-performing, plant-based formulations in thoughtfully designed packaging.
