Cobb's Gourmet Popcorn

From Our Archive: Erin Cobb & Rowan Ring believe in having a great time and making unbelievable popcorn.

It started innocently enough... A stovetop in Seattle, some salted butter and a little bit of luck making popcorn for friends and family. Things were simple at first. No License. No Inspections. Just two friends and a family recipe. Made in small batches the hard way.

As word began to spread... Their phones were getting pretty busy. Friends ordered by text and weekends weren't enough...Cobb's "Bootleg Popcorn" Operation needed equipment. They cashed in their savings to buy a 20-year old popper from The Stratosphere Casino. Then put up a simple website to make orders easier... That's when all hell broke loose. The next day the biggest popcorn supplier in Seattle shuttered 4 locations just before Christmas and orders POURED in for hundreds of gallons of popcorn.

They started Popping literally around the clock and called on every man, woman, and child who could help to frantically fill orders and help save Christmas. All told they went from 20 Gallons per week to selling over 3,000 gallons in 6 weeks from the back of a rented kitchen. Challenges bring out the best in people and their people had banded together to help them save Christmas traditions for hundreds of families in the Northwest.

That's what they're all about — A Passion for Popcorn. They got to work renovating an Old Bakery in Pike Place Market, where they could be close to — chefs, chocolatiers, cheese makers and farmers — for advice, finding inspiration everywhere they looked. Cobb's is built on the belief that love is greater than fear.

Explore more makers from our archive.

Browse our current collection of active local makers.
